I scatter pomegranate seeds by the window, just in case the fruits of the afterlife taste too perfect.

This piece meditates on the dialogue between living and departed. The turquoise dawn captures the fragile transition of emerging from a dark night of the soul.

My painting is punctuated by pomegranate seeds, symbolic of the private conversations we continue to hold with those who are gone. These white lies, sometimes necessary for survival, are balanced by the presence of the Hoopoe bird, a nod to Attar’s Conference of the Birds, guiding the viewer toward an inner resilience, wisdom and faith that is perhaps the closest thing to a bridge between worlds.

In a final, intimate act of devotion, the canvas was cut using my mother’s fruit knife, infusing the work with tangible lineage and raw ancestral connection.
