A moment of introspection, rife with life and energetic brushwork. This piece is semi-autobiographical, depicting the artist at a crossroads of resourcefulness and reinvention. I’ve used psychedelic reds and greens to build up the flesh and give the portrait a layered and almost bruised feel. The knife is a metaphor for the audacity to forge new paths. With a stroke of irony, I invite you to a private consultation with the spider, who symbolizes creativity and new beginnings, and a cheeky inventive self. This painting is a study of spiritual momentum- the hands are outstretched in a state of prayer while the soul’s innermost wishes soar like a flock of birds.
